SLADOLENT: PROMENADE OF SLOVENIAN CHEFS
SladoLent 2012 Street Food Festival as part of the Maribor 2012 European Capital of Culture, promenade at the Drava river (Lent), every evening from 7 pm to 11 pm cooking shows of the best Slovenian chefs.
Every year during the Lent Festival, the riverbank of the Drava River in Maribor turns into one of the largest multicultural promenades in Slovenia for 16 days. This year, Lent will also be the largest culinary promenade! As part of the Lent Festival and the programme of the Maribor 2012 European Capital of Culture, the best Slovenian chefs will introduce themselves with new, innovative street food dishes at the SladoLent Street Food Festival.
If last year’s SladoLent tried to undermine the myth about “čevapčiči everywhere”, then this year’s events will fulfil the task and turn Lent into a promenade of the Slovenian kitchen.
Almost all chefs from the best Slovenian inns and restaurants have responded to the invitations to SladoLent. Top Slovenian chefs who successfully appear at the largest culinary meetings and events all over the world will this time also present themselves to local eaters.
Top Slovenian cuisine will turn the Lent promenade into a promenade of Slovenian chefs. Internationally known and renowned chefs Tomaž Kavčič, Ana Roš, Janez Bratovž, Andrej Kuhar, the culinary "three tenors" from Bled: Igor Jagodic, Uroš Štefelin and Bine Volčič, regional champions Tanja and Damir Pintarič, Jure Tomič, Marko Pavčnik, Ksenija Mahorčič, Miriam Novak, Tomaž Bolka and Gašper Čarman, the young generation David Vračko, Borut Jovan, Damjan Fink, Uroš Fakuč and Luka Jezeršek and others are all coming to Maribor. The best Slovenian chefs will also be accompanied by chefs from the 2012 European Capital of Culture and students from the Maribor Vocational College for Catering and Tourism.
Every night, three top chefs will present themselves at the Drava promenade with their new, innovative and tasty dishes prepared for SladoLent as well as street food. The culinary show with tasting of all the presented dishes and the accompaniment of top wines from the Štajerska region will start every evening at 7 pm and last until 1 pm. There is no entry fee, and each individual dish will cost only €3.50.
The street food will be accompanied by best Styrian wines: Gaube, Valdhuber, Dveri Pax, Joannes Protner, Steyer, Doppler, Vinag in Ptujska klet - Pullus. The price per glass is 2 and 3 Euros.
Sladolent is a part of the Capital of tastes in the context of Maribor, the 2012 European Capital of tastes.
