DHAFER YOUSSEF QUARTET (TUN/AUT, USA, CAN, EST)

Dhafer Youssef (vocals, oud), Kristjan Randalu (piano), Chris Jennings (double bass, bass), Mark Giuliana (drums)

Tunisian singer and oud player Dhafer Youssef built his first instrument himself out of odds and ends. He used it to play at a lot of weddings until eventually he had earned enough to buy a 'real' instrument.

Youssef blends the sounds of traditional verses from the Quran with Western influences like jazz, electronic music and rock that he heard on the radio. He is known for his wonderful vocal style and poetic playing.

Dhafer Youssef performed on Jazzlent a few years ago, this year he will present his new album Abu Navas Rhapsody. One of the most successful musician of contemporary jazz, world music and a source of creativity with a hint of electronic music - something you should not miss!
