Every end of June for the last 20 years, Maribor transforms into a young, playful, relaxed, creative and social city. The beginning of Festival Lent turns our city into a multicultural world in which visitors, performers and organisers can feel like they belong.
The introduction to this year’s festival bustle is the exhibition “20 years of Festival Lent” at the Leon Štukelj Square which will open one month before the beginning of the biggest multicultural festival of all open-air festivals in Slovenia and in South-Eastern Europe.
Let the LENTing 2012 begin!
Until the end of the festival on June 7th, you will be able to see the 20-year-old story of the festival on 20 lit billboards. In sixteen festival days, more than 1200 events will take place at over 35 venues in the old city centre, the city park and the entire Maribor, some of the performers being world-famous artists.
One of the highlights of this year’s festivals and one of the key events of the European Capital of Culture – Maribor 2012, funded by the European Union, will for sure be the performance of the American singer, actress and Grammy award winner Macy Gray. From June 22nd to July 7th, the organizers expect the Festival Lent to attract over half million of visitors.
The concept of the festival promotes interaction and facilitates the exchange of experience. Artistically, it is a hive full of creative and hard working bees that organize, perform and clap. It is called BEE (Bordering European Experience) because it connects people and expresses youth, friendship, creativity, cooperation and long-term definition of Festival Lent. In short: LENTing.
LENTing is a play on words.
LENTing is that which other festivals lack.
LENTing is unique to the Lent Festival!
